What we do

Our vision is to enable all our girls, young women, leaders and volunteers to fulfil their potential, have adventure, experience different opportunities and have fun in a safe girl-only environment.

British Girlguiding Overseas is part of UK Girlguiding. Units are based in many parts of the world, either in UK Overseas territories or in areas where it is impossible or inappropriate for reasons such as language or culture for the girls to join the local national organisation. Members make the same promise as in the UK, follow the current programme as appropriate to their Section and wherever possible follow the policy and rules of Girlguiding.

Chief Commissioner Diane Thomas receives the Silver Fish award

Huge congratulations to our Chief Commissioner Diane Thomas on receiving the Silver Fish award, the highest honour in guiding. This is so very well deserved. Thank you Diane from everyone at BGO.

The next Chief Commissioner for British Girlguiding Overseas will be Rachael Aldus.

She writes: "I have been a member of Girlguiding since I was a Brownie aged 7, and have been a leader for more than 30 years mainly in the UK. I have been a Guide, Ranger Leader and now a Brownie Leader here in Dubai. I have been on numerous international trips including leading trips for leaders and supporting guiding in The Gambia. One of my main passions is not just to grow guiding but to make strong leadership teams and to have fun. I am delighted to be asked to represent BGO as their Region Chief and hope to carry on the amazing work that Diane has been doing."

Waddow Hall

The proposed BGO residential and camping event at Girlguiding Waddow Hall is now planned for 24 - 29 July 2022. Brownies, Guides and Rangers will have the opportunity to enjoy a packed programme of activities. There will be possibilities for our adult volunteers at Waddow. You can find out more on the Outdoor Opportunities page.
