Going Away with Scheme

Thinking of taking your unit away overnight?

Going away with their unit, for many girls, is a highlight of their time in Girlguiding. We are here to help leaders facilitate this and provide support.

Latest Information and Advice

Any leaders in BGO wanting to take girls away for the first time.

Your district commissioner should be able to help you to contact your local Outdoor Activities Adviser (OAA). She will then arrange for a mentor to guide you through the licence.

Choosing a Venue

Coming in 2021 - a list of venues used across BGO by local units.

If a venue has not been used before then you will have to ensure that it is suitable and safe for use by Girlguiding members. Suitable venues are often those used by local youth organisations and schools but be aware that this is not always the case. For help and support in making sure a venue is suitable contact your local commissioner or OAA.

Joining an event run by other members of Girlguiding, WAGGGS or Scouting.

There are often opportunities to join with others locally to BGO units, these can be great opportunities for our members and in areas where membership numbers are low can work well in providing a broader range of opportunities. In all cases it is necessary to ensure that Girlguiding regulations are followed. For more information follow this link.
