The aim of the Friends is to provide practical and financial support to BGO. we help fund camps, support travel costs for girls returning to the UK for camps and provide badge and marketing tools to help to promote BGO throughout Girlguiding. We offer a free one year’s membership to all BGO leaders returning to the UK - but please let us know you are coming back!
On Saturday 2nd April 2022 Friends of British Girlguiding Overseas held their first hybrid AGM. Those who could attend were well looked after at the Church of St John the Evangelist in Cambridge. The local Trefoil Guild provided us with an excellent lunch. This meeting was very well attended face to face and via Zoom.
After the business part of our AGM. We had two interesting speakers. Revati Sanzagiri, who is a Friends member, gave a short talk about living with COVID in Goa and how she encouraged volunteers to help support their community during the pandemic.
Our second speaker, Dr Rosalind Parkes-Ratanshi MBBS MA PhD FRCP FFPH, spoke on the subject “How myexperience in guiding helped me to build my career in Global Health”. All those who attended thoroughly enjoyed listening to both of our speakers.
It was agreed that next year’s AGM will be held at Foxlease on March 24th-26th 2023.
We have an annual meeting to which all members are invited. We get together somewhere in the UK and every three years we have one in Europe. It’s a great chance to catch up with old friends and make new friendships. We have all at sometime had a connection with British Girlguiding Overseas (formerly BGIFC) and have many memories and adventures to recall. You will also receive newsletters from BGO.
Anne Brien is the welcoming member for Friends and she will be delighted to hear from you. You can contact her at email@example.com. There is an annual subscription of £15.
We have a Friends enamel brooch (£5 including UK postage) available at this link and we also sell Friends notelet cards (£5 for a pack of 4).
You can support the Friends by joining the 100 club. For a stake of £10 per year your name is entered into three cash draws.
